Best Answer - Chosen by VotersThe origin of melanoma begins with melanocytes, (malignant cells) which migrate to the epidermis. A malignant melanoma developing in healthy skin is said to arise de novo, (without evidence of a precursor lesion.) many of these are induced by solar irradiation Melanoma has 2 growth phases, radical and vertical.Rapid-malignant cells grow in a radial fashion of the epidermis. With time, most melanomas progress to the vertical growth phase where malignant cells invade the dermis and develop the ability to metastasize. Hope that's what you need. Good luck
